"I came to say goodbye to it today anyway. I heard some rich highty-tighty celebutant bought it yesterday."
"You sound sad about that? I thought the sale of this place would bring you a large commission."
"It does and it will, but it was more than the pay off. I wanted to find someone their 'forever home' in this house; it's really special and I wanted it to go to the right family." She looked wistful. "Does that make any sense?"
"Yeah, it does."
He stared into her eyes with a serious look, heating her up from her head to her toes. Now that Noah was well again, her s.e.xual awareness of Nate was operating in full force. Her nipples hardened with the intensity of his stare. Before she could ask him anything, he tilted his head down and kissed her softly. His lips were soft and warm and so welcoming on hers. There was no rushed pa.s.sion in the caress of his mouth on hers. It was different today. The electricity was present but the intensity and attentiveness of his kiss was out of this world. She moaned against his lips as her arms crept up around his neck and her body molded against his. His hands roamed her hips and back as he deepened his kiss, as though he wanted to transfer something to her.
Nate pulled away, his breathing short as he once again stared into her bright eyes. "I love you."
Brielle took a step back, trying to figure out if she'd actually heard right.
"I love you, Brielle," he repeated for her benefit, his hands on the b.a.l.l.s of her shoulders.
"Nate, you're only saying that because you think it's what I want to hear, so we can be a family to Noah. You're reacting emotionally after Noah's illness."
"Brielle, don't negate my feelings. I have never said those words to a woman that was not my mother before. You're like a force that I cannot outrun and dammit, I love you!" he laughed to himself. "You are more than the mother of our child. I regret ever walking away from you six years ago, but I have a chance to be with you now and I don't want to pa.s.s it up. I'd love us to be a family to Noah but this is more than that. I want to be a husband to you. I want you to be my wife and raise our highty-tighty celebutant children in our 'forever home.'" His eyes shone with excitement and some other emotion Brielle could not place.
Her head was spinning. "What?"
"I bought the house," his face broke into a huge grin. "And I'm asking you to marry me, Brielle."
She remained silent, taking in his words. So many words. So many beautiful words.
"Honey, your silence is speaking volumes right now and I don't think I like the answers."
"How do I know that this is real? That this isn't you reacting in the moment?"
"Because I will spend the rest of my life proving to you just how real this is. I thought my life was racing but it was only a means to find you and make our beautiful family. The timing was wrong before but Noah has made the timing right, and he's shown me what I've been missing all my life. You B. You drive me crazy but I want to marry you anyway. h.e.l.l, I want to marry you because of it!"
She surprised him with a grin of her own. "Yes! Yes, I will marry you!" She threw herself into his arms and whispered in his ear as he spun her around, "I love you too, Nate."
He put her down and looked into her face, "Say it again."
She beamed at him, "I love you, Nate." She barely got the words out before he captured her mouth once again and poured all his love into the kiss, nearly knocking her off her feet.
"You have made me the happiest man in the world, Brielle. You've done an amazing job raising our son all these years and I'm so grateful that you've given me a chance to help raise him for the rest of our lives."
"I feel like I've waited for you all my life, Nathan."
"The wait is over now, Bree, I'm here to stay."
With that he sealed his love with a kiss, silently promising his heart and soul for the rest of their lives.
The End.
