Chapter 3 Part 2

[T/N: Yay to Ko-fi~ This part is normal update for this week! I will update another 2 parts (Whole of Chapter 4) within this week! Stay tune~]

The sound of a police car rang outside the restaurant. Qiao Yin was on tiptoes and pa.s.sively being held by Li Cheng. She did not dare to make any abrupt movement. At first, Li Cheng threatened her with a spring knife, so she didn't expect him to carry a gun. Now, he had driven all the guests out, and there were only two possible options: Either to die with her or take her as hostage and run.

Soon, Yan Cong surrounded the front door of the restaurant with other police officers. He was holding onto a gun and walked towards the entrance. He shouted towards Li Cheng who was inside, “Li Cheng! You're surrounded! Release the hostage immediately and surrender! If you resist, we will shoot on the spot!”

“Call the reporter! Let them live stream! Or I'll kill her!” Li Cheng shouted hysterically. All his reasons were swept away by anger.

“It's useless…” Qiao Yin was held so tightly that she felt out of breath, she still struggled to say it. “You can't possibly help Li Jian Hui to redress the injustice… He killed the man…”

Her words once again made Li Cheng agitated. He pressed harder on her temple with a gun and shouted into her ears, “Impossible! He would never kill anyone!”

Her eardrum could not bear such a volume, Qiao Yin ear was ringing. As though she could not hear his reb.u.t.tal, she continued weakly, “At that time, Chen Wen could only help him fight for deferred death sentence… The problem was that Li Jian Hui didn't want to cooperate and he also allegedly said that he didn't kill that person. In the end, Chen Wen was imprisoned for the crime of lawyer perjury…” She opened and closed her mouth to catch a breath, “Do you know why Li Jian Hui until the day he died, was still crying for injustice?”

Li Cheng felt that his temple was jumping non-stop. He crazily pulled her hair and pressed her head against the cas.h.i.+er counter, “Shut up!”

With her head on the cas.h.i.+er counter, Qiao Yin's sight became dark. She convulsed her lips and dizzily said the remaining words, “Because he knew you would come back here to work… He didn't want you to be here all the time remembering that you have a killer brother…”

At this moment, Yan Cong's voice sounded from outside the restaurant. “Li Cheng! We've notified the reporters! I am going in alone now! What else do you want, we can negotiate in person!”

Li Cheng looked at Qiao Yin for a moment and looked up at Yan Cong for a moment. His head was full of perspiration and the muscle on his face was very tight like he was about to be thrown into a panic. Yan Cong stopped about five meters away, still pointing his gun at Li Cheng, his eyes fixed on Li Cheng's eyes. “Li Cheng put down your weapon and release the hostage. We'll put you on the news.”

“Unless I see the news go live! Otherwise, don't waste your words!” Li Cheng also pointed his gun at him, and swiftly caught a glimpse of the LCD TV at the main hall, his face was very red. “Do not try to fool me! I can see it!”

Yan Cong tightened his teeth. They did notify the reporters and cameramen, but it was completely impossible to get the news on the scene. This would create a more serious social panic.

Seeing his hesitation, Li Cheng clenched Qiao Yin's neck even tighter. He apparently had gotten ready for the worst. “Hurry!”

Qiao Yin was strangled till her feet had already left the ground. Her brain had begun to lack oxygen. Her whole person was like a dehydrated fish, almost suffocating. “Li Cheng… Your brother has a message for you…” She grabbed onto Li Cheng's arm that was strangling her, her nails were almost poking into his flesh. “There's an email… It's a recording. He left a message asking me to hand it over to you when you return… I had burned it into a disk… It's in the law firm…”

“You still want to lie to me!?” As Li Cheng shouted, his attention s.h.i.+fted away from Yan Cong — Yan Cong saw the opportunity and immediately pulled the trigger!

Li Cheng quickly responded to the sound of the shot, he moved to his side, but his arm was still hit by the bullet. He let loose of Qiao Yin with a painful reflex!

When she fell to the ground, Qiao Yin did not care about her jellied-legs. She jumped up and ran in the direction of Yan Cong. Seeing the situation was wrong, Li Cheng, lying on his stomach, quickly shot Yan Cong's hand! Yan Cong's wrist was. .h.i.t by the bullet, and his gun flew out of his hand. His first reaction was to reach for his backup gun, but he saw Li Cheng pointing the gun at Qiao Yin!

“Bang!”

As the fire raged, the gunshot sound at the back of the cas.h.i.+er counter had ended everything.

Qiao Yin knelt on her knees in front of Yan Cong. She turned her head in a heartbeat and saw Xiao Yang kept his gun and ran towards Li Cheng. Li Cheng, who was shot in the lungs, laid on the floor and began to shed blood. Xiao Yang walked to his side and checked his breathing. After he confirmed that he was dead, he took out a walkie-talkie and told the police, “The suspect has been killed and the scene is safe.”

Three minutes ago, he arrived at the front door of Tai Hao s.h.i.+ Restaurant. He found the owner and asked where the back door was. He then sneaked in from the back door and ambush behind Li Cheng and fired at the critical moment.

Yan Cong patted Qiao Yin on her shoulder to rea.s.sure her. The first aid crew rushed in immediately to treat Yan Cong's hand and then helped to support Qiao Yin to ask if she was injured. It wasn't until the moment she got up that she slowly recovered, and her eyes were still on Li Cheng's body, slightly dazed.

Twenty minutes later, she was taken to the police car and was going to the station to take notes. The reporters that was late surrounded the police car to take photographs. Xiao Yang looked at it from afar and saw Qiao Yin in the car holding her hands to cover herself. Finally, she rolled down the window and telling them with a clear, dry voice, and expressionless expression. “I do not care which news media all of you are from. Please be prepared to receive a lawyer's letter if you expose my photo and ident.i.ty when reporting on this case. I'll investigate till the end.”

Then, regardless of their reaction, she rolled the window back up.

Xiao Yang took back his line of sight and looked at the case file related to Li Jian Hui. When he saw the disk in the file, the edge of his eyes rose slightly.

He thought that Qiao Yin's remark about Li Jian Hui was merely delaying the time, but he did not expect that the disk actually existed.

He looked up at the police car that was heading towards the police station. His brain subconsciously flashed with the look on her face when she was talking to the reporters.

When Qiao Yin finished the transcript, it was already 5 pm. Standing at the entrance of the police station, she contacted her colleagues to report her safety and reminded them not to tell Shen Yan Fang what happened today. Looking through her contact list, she sent a text message to Xiao Yang. She also reminded him not to tell Shen Yan Fang about the dangers she went through a few hours ago.

After the text message was just sent out, she heard a ringing sound not far behind her. She turned around and take a look. It was Xiao Yang who was walking towards her. He took a step and took out his phone to check the text message, and then raised his eyebrows.

“There should be nothing else right?” He stopped in front of her, raised his chin to indicate to her to start moving forward, his tone was unquestionable. “Collect your car tomorrow. I'll send you home first.”

Qiao Yin was still a little shaken up. After thinking about it, she nodded.

Xiao Yang then went to drive his Volvo out of the parking lot. When Qiao Yin got in the car, she thought to herself. ‘Fortunately, Xiao Yang is not driving a police car to send her back. If not, the news of her spending the day in the police station will spread throughout the neighborhood.'

They didn't talk throughout the whole journey. Until Xiao Yang parked his car in the community's parking lot, and Qiao Yin heard Xiao Yang getting out of the car, she then turned around and smiled reluctantly. “I can go up by myself. Thank you, Xiao Yang.”

He turned a deaf ear, walked around the car and came to her side. He slightly frowned and said, “Let's go, I still have to go back for duty later.”

Since he was so enthusiastic, Qiao Yin did not dare to reject. She did not say anything and went upstairs with him. Xiao Yang sent her to the door and then instructed without much expression, “Take a shower and sleep. If you feel scared, call your friends over. If you need anything, you can contact me, but I can't guarantee that I can reply to you immediately.”

“En, thank you.” She nodded sideways, and some radiance had finally returned to her big eyes. “Please rest more when you have the time. Thanks for your hard work.”

Xiao Yang didn't stay for long. He left immediately after he saw her entered the house.

Before she went to bed, Qiao Yin was drying her hair on the sofa while watching TV. Thinking of this, she grabbed her phone and sent a text message to Xiao Yang. “Restored. Thanks for saving my life. I am unable able to return the favor. Next time I will treat you to a meal as thanks. It seems that you are lack of sleep. Once the case is over, you must take a good rest. Good night! – Qiao Yin.”

She thought she wouldn't receive any reply from this busy man even when she woke up the next morning. Unexpectedly, she received a reply in less than half a minute after her text message was sent. Xiao Yang replied, “En, good night.”

Such simple words, like himself, it was neither cold nor warm.

The only wonder was that, after she read the text message, the initial restlessness became more at ease.

She laid lazily on the sofa and thought she should not be having insomnia tonight.
