Chapter 1101 I Know How Much You’ve Crossed the Line
Mumu disappeared behind the gate of the old house like a gust of wind.
When the little boy rushed into the house, the first person he saw was Kang Ruicheng, who was sitting on the sofa with a gloomy face.
After thinking for a while, he raised his chin slightly and snorted indifferently at Kang Ruicheng. Then, he turned around and ran straight to Xu Youning.
Mumu was expressing his objection to Kang Ruicheng in this way.
The relations.h.i.+p between Kang Ruicheng and Xu Youning finally eased up, but because of the operation, they were on bad terms with each other again.
Kang Ruicheng already felt greatly troubled. Now that Mumu had such an att.i.tude toward him, he felt that he was going crazy.
It was not only because of Xu Youning but also because of Mumu.
Somehow, Xu Youning doted on Mumu very much, so Kang Ruicheng also wanted to get along well with Mumu.
He thought that in this way, for the sake of the little boy, Xu Youning could at least accept his intimacy.
What Kang Ruicheng didn’t understand was that when he took the initiative to get closer to his son, it seemed that Mumu wouldn’t understand his nice gestures but began to guard against him.
It was also in the past few days that he had finally gotten a little closer to the little boy.
“Is the relations.h.i.+p between me and Mumu going back to its original state just because of a trivial matter?”
Kang Ruicheng thought about it for a long time, but he didn’t feel sad.
He just felt unwilling, so he silently made some plans in his heart.
“No matter what, I have to at least repair the relations.h.i.+p between me and Mumu.
“Only when Mumu is pleased will Xu Youning possibly give me a chance.”
When Kang Ruicheng was planning, Mumu had already rushed over to Xu Youning.
The little boy, like a little monkey, climbed up to the chair flexibly right away. He sat upright and said, “Auntie Youning, let’s start eating.”
Even though he and his dad didn’t have deep feelings for each other, Mumu had always known that Kang Ruicheng was his father.
The little boy had been taught by Xu Youning since he was young that he must be polite. Whether he liked that the others or not, he had to treat them with basic courtesy.
Because of what Xu Youning told him, Mumu had always been very polite to Kang Ruicheng since he was young. When he was at the dining table, no matter how hungry he was, as long as Kang Ruicheng was home, the little boy would definitely wait until his dad was at the table before he started to eat.
This was the first time that the little boy turned a blind eye to Kang Ruicheng when he knew that his dad was next to him.
Xu Youning vaguely guessed that the little boy should have known the conflict between her and Kang Ruicheng, and he was truly mad at his dad.
“This is just what I need. I need to pretend to be mad as well so that both Mumu and I would look angry. At least I can have someone to be irritated with me together, which is just the effect I was looking for.”
Xu Youning nodded and said, “Okay. Let’s eat.”
“Since the little boy wants to ignore Kang Ruicheng, I’ll just play along.
“We’ll just put on an act together. With me and Mumu acting together, we can be a perfect combination of a movie king and a movie queen!”
Mumu didn’t know what Xu Youning was thinking. After hearing Xu Youning’s answer, he lowered his voice and told Xu Youning, “Auntie Youning, you should eat more. You’re pregnant with a baby!”
The Kang family’s old house was so big that only Xu Youning could hear what Mumu said by the end.
What she didn’t expect was that the little boy kept thinking about the baby she was pregnant with.
She smiled, touched the little boy’s head, and promised him, “Okay. I will eat a lot.”
In fact, she didn’t have much appet.i.te, and she might not be able to eat a lot.
But she knew that Mumu had already known that she and Kang Ruicheng had quarreled. The little boy was afraid that the quarrel would affect her mood and her appet.i.te.
Mumu couldn’t bear to have her baby starved.
It turned out that Mumu had always been considerate of her baby.
Kang Ruicheng and the others had always thought that her baby had already lost its signs of living, and Kang Ruicheng had also told Mumu about it.
However, the little boy was very stubborn and still firmly believed that her baby was fine.
Xu Youning was glad that her baby was indeed fine.
Although Mumu was smart, he still had the innocence of a child.
The little boy firmly believed in many things, including that her baby was still alive.
What he didn’t know was that he would be disappointed in a lot of things in the end.
The matter about her baby was the only thing that Xu Youning could do to not disappoint Mumu. She would let Mumu see that her baby was still alive and could survive.
Mumu didn’t know what Xu Youning was thinking. He smiled innocently and picked up some food for her.
After the meal, Mumu slid down the chair and pulled Xu Youning upstairs.
Seeing this, Kang Ruicheng stopped Mumu. “Stop!”
Mumu continued to pull Xu Youning to the second floor as if he didn’t hear what Kang Ruicheng said.
Kang Ruicheng finally couldn’t stand it anymore and shouted, “Mumu, I told you to stop!”
Mumu slowly stopped and turned around innocently. “Daddy, were you calling me just now?”
Kang Ruicheng narrowed his eyes, looking dangerous. “In this house, would I call anyone else but you and Youning? Is there anyone else called Mumu here?”
“Okay, got it.” Mumu turned around and pretended to fiddle with his fingers innocently. “But… you didn’t call my name just now! I don’t know who you were calling, so I could only ignore you! This is not my fault!”
The little boy’s tone was a little harsh. He emphasized it again and again in order to prevent Kang Ruicheng from pus.h.i.+ng the blame on him.
“I don’t have time to listen to your explanation!” Kang Ruicheng ordered, “Come here!”
Mumu didn’t listen to Kang Ruicheng’s words but looked up at Xu Youning first.
Xu Youning didn’t know what Kang Ruicheng wanted to do, but she still let go of the little boy’s hand and motioned for him to go over.
Mumu then dawdled to Kang Ruicheng’s side and called him listlessly, “Daddy.”
Xu Youning thought for a moment. She a.s.sumed that Kang Ruicheng wouldn’t hurt Mumu, so she had nothing to worry about.
However, she was not in the mood to stay in the living room, so she went straight upstairs.
Kang Ruicheng didn’t ask Xu Youning to stay.
Since Xu Youning went back to her room, it would be more convenient for him to talk to Mumu.
Kang Ruicheng looked serious and gave Mumu a look. “Sit down.”
This time, Mumu was obedient. He replied with an “okay” and sat down, staring at Kang Ruicheng without blinking.
Kang Ruicheng ignored the fact that Mumu was just a child. He lit a cigarette and looked at the little boy. “Did you know what happened between me and Youning?”
“Yes.” Mumu nodded. He still looked extremely honest, but he suddenly said with an accusing tone, “I also know how much you crossed the line, Daddy!”
“Mumu!” Kang Ruicheng’s voice instantly cooled down. “You’re still young. You don’t know anything at all!”
Mumu turned his head and snorted indifferently. “That’s not true. I know everything! You don’t need to ask me how I knew it. I won’t betray Uncle Dongzi!”
Kang Ruicheng was not interested in blaming Dongzi for the time being. He looked at the little boy seriously and asked, “Mumu, do you think what I did was wrong? Do you think it’s proper for Youning to be so mad at me?”
If it weren’t for Xu Youning, the little boy wouldn’t be angry.
Mumu’s cheeks were bulging out of rage. He looked at Kang Ruicheng seriously and said, “Daddy, if I were Auntie Youning, I would be even angrier!”
Kang Ruicheng looked curious. “Why?”
In a short moment, Mumu seemed to have become an adult. He looked at Kang Ruicheng in confusion and asked, “Daddy, don’t you really understand? What you did is very disrespectful to Auntie Youning!”
Kang Ruicheng frowned and became even more confused. He looked at Mumu in confusion and explained, “Mumu, I did this for her sake. Also, does this kind of thing have anything to do with respect?”
Mumu blinked his eyes and suddenly said, “Daddy, don’t you know that you will get Auntie Youning killed if you do this?!”
Kang Ruicheng narrowed his eyes, and his voice suddenly became cold. He emphasized irrefutably, “I just want her to recover.”
Mumu disagreed with Kang Ruicheng’s words and shook his head like an adult. “But that’s not what Aunt Youning thought of first.”
“Mumu knows what Xu Youning is thinking?”
For the first time, Kang Ruicheng realized that Mumu was smarter than ordinary children. “Maybe… I should talk to him seriously.”
Kang Ruicheng turned around and looked Mumu in the eye. “Then, tell me, what was the first thing that came to Auntie Youning’s mind when she heard my words?”
“Auntie Youning would think that you don’t care about her at all!” Mumu looked at Kang Ruicheng with a serious face and said, “If she undergoes surgery, there is a 90% chance that she will die. Daddy, why can’t you be considerate of her? You made the decision at once because you don’t care about her. You just saw that she had a chance to recover, but you didn’t expect that she would have a higher chance of pa.s.sing away.”
Kang Ruicheng didn’t say anything.
He had an illusion that he was not talking to a five-year-old child.
“This boy is smarter and more sensible than I have imagined. He could even tear open my inner feelings in a few seconds and expose the side that I dare not face in the broad daylight.”
When Kang Ruicheng talked with Fang Heng over the phone, he only paid attention to the first half of the doctor’s words that Xu Youning had a chance to recover.
As for the 90 percent failure rate, he did not take it to heart.
Because if Xu Youning didn’t take the operation, she would definitely die.
If the operation was performed, Xu Youning still had a 10% chance of survival.
Even if the operation failed, the price Kang Ruicheng had to pay was that Xu Youning would leave the world in advance.
He shouldn’t be very sad by then.
Because he knew that since surgery couldn’t save Xu Youning, it meant that she couldn’t survive anymore.
He had tried his best, so he should have no regrets.
When he thought about that, Kang Ruicheng had only been making plans for himself and hadn’t thought about Xu Youning’s feelings in detail.
Kang Ruicheng had never dared to face this.
Once Xu Youning was involved, he rarely dared to face his own feelings.
Kang Ruicheng didn’t expect that Mumu could not only see through his mind at a glance but also say it out clearly.
