Chapter 23.1 – Not bad

Su Zi followed her in observing Li Erqin, and after a few minutes, she came to a conclusion. "I don't think so."

Peng Zige nodded. "I don't think so either!"

It was rare for them to come to an unanimous agreement.

"Why not?" Ruan Nuonuo asked, not comprehending.

Su Zi and Peng Zige chorused in unison, "No such enlightenment." (i.e. They did not get those vibes!)

Ruan Nuonuo disputed, "Somehow, I kind of feel that Li Erqin's eyes were constantly following and casting meaningful glances at Rong Si."

There was not one word that Ruan Nuonuo said that was to Peng Zige's liking, and displeased, he said, "Su Zi's eyes are always following (running after me) and tracking me too!"

Su Zi immediately took offense. "Whose eyes keep following you?"

"Yours!"

"Nonsense!"  Su Zi raised her voice, "Whose eyes are always locked on me 24 hours a day? Whether I'm picking answer A or C, he knows better than I do!"

It's because I can't lose to you!

Peng Zige did not utter this out loud because that would mean admitting that he was afraid of losing out to her. He may as well admit that he liked looking at her.

What did come out of his mouth took quite a turn from those thoughts. "When you're blessed with a kind heart and beauty, why would you prevent others from looking?" (TN: He used the words 赏心悦目 which means "warms the heart and delights the eye (idiom)" )

"&h.e.l.lip;&h.e.l.lip;"

Su Zi was stunned.

The atmosphere suddenly turned rather awkward.

Li Erqin and Rong Si were looking at them.

(Minodayz: I dunno but the author sure does like to throw a cliffhanging situation with a sudden s.h.i.+ft & side humor&h.e.l.lip;.remember PZG trying to talk serious with RS about flying UFO n rescue of RNN instead of LEQ – then bang teacher laser beam them in rendezvous! I digress but PZG sure can throw our SZ into a tailspin!)

The blush on her face began to spread down to her neck, and she stiffly replied, "Then, I'll say thank you?"

Being crazy/mad has its benefits.  Peng Zige widely waved his hands. "Don't mention it. I'm the type that speaks the absolute truth."

"Ha Ha." Su Zi gave him a grim laugh, concealed her answer in her workbook and began on the next question.

Peng Zige curled his lips. He was consistently working faster than Su Zi. Smiling proudly, he turned his worksheets over to work on the next question.

The broadcasting studio had once again returned to peaceful silence.

Li Erqin lowered her head to continue her studies, but she found it hard to resume after her train of thought had been disrupted. She sighed in frustration.

Rong Si's pen was poised over a particular step on one of the draft papers, and he tapped the paper.

Her concentration very naturally began to collect itself, and her pen began to pick up momentum.

Rong Si quietly observed her for a while before bringing his book over to study.

Ruan Nuonuo seemed to be the only one noticing them, feeling like an outsider.

"Well&h.e.l.lip;," she said, "I'll head back to my self-study."

Peng Zige agreed, "Hurry along then, or else your teacher will notice that you've skipped self-study period.  The last time we skipped self-study, we were nearly drowned by the teacher's saliva."

Su Zi raised her head smiling.

Peng Zige embarra.s.sed her by saying, "What are you smiling about? Weren't you given a scolding too?"

Su Zi ignored him and addressed Ruan Nuonuo, "Hurry and head back. Although it may not be as serious as Peng Zige makes it out to be, nevertheless, you may get a telling off."

Ruan Nuonuo didn't know why her mood was so low. After all, she had already solved what was bothering her all day, but somehow she was left feeling worse than she did when she first arrived.

In the evening as Su Zi and Li Erqin were was.h.i.+ng up back at the hostel, Li Erqin was a little depressed. "It looks like this Physics paper will be another terrible grade."

Su Zi comforted her. "This time round, the questions were definitely much more difficult. I'm sure more than half of the students will also have failed."

Li Erqin was even further agitated. "Rong Si will definitely be disappointed &h.e.l.lip;"

Su Zi rinsed out her mug and toothbrush and quietly looked at her. "Why are you so concerned about Rong Si's feelings?"

"He's tutored me on my Physics for so long&h.e.l.lip;."

"You've already made a lot of improvements."

Li Erqin finished was.h.i.+ng her face and gave a couple of final splashes. She lifted her head and looked at Su Zi earnestly with her still-wet face. "Every time my family's Lai Fu (TN: her pet's name, translates literally to "come fortune") refuses to bow for me, I also get disappointed."

"How long have you taught it?"

"Almost a year."

Su Zi was still trying to comfort her and continued, "Some little dogs can be a little playful and intentionally want to tease you too."

"Lai Fu is a Central Bearded Dragon. (鬃狮蜥)"

"What?"

"Lizard."

"&h.e.l.lip;&h.e.l.lip;"

Minodayz: hahahaha— I love the mix up – I had to read it like 10 times before I got my head around her words.  The author had used 我家福 wo jia fu – which would normally translate My family – but I believe it's actually works on how you punctuate – so it's split into my family's FU! The SZ's misunderstanding that it's a dog just cracks me up!!!! A flipping LIZARD! Hahahaha – nothing less for LEQ indeed. Our foursome seems have an underlying sizzling romance amongst themselves &h.e.l.lip; hmmm&h.e.l.lip;&h.e.l.lip;
