CSWH Chapter 32: The Prime Minister’s Doubt"……haa, haa…………!"
It appeared that she was trying to adjust her disordered breathing. Her sweat flowed, drop by drop, soaking her clothes to the point where even an outsider could see that they were saturated to the point where sweat could be wrung out from them.
"I try not to meddle in the training menus of other people, but…….isn't this menu a bit too hard on Ojou-chan? Gazelle."
While looking down from the window, I called out to Gazelle, who was behind me.
"Too hard? It's the punishment that she brought upon herself, it's just about right if it's too hard for her."
Gazelle snorted, but didn't give one glance towards Ojou-chan……Mellice, who was below us.
He probably had confidence that even if he didn't observe her, she'd surely do the menu that he had a.s.signed her.
And just as Gazelle imagined, she was separated from the other members on the grounds, doing the rigorous training that Gazelle had ordered her to complete.
"Punishment she brought upon herself, you say……she was just walking around town, right?"
"Why does Romel know……no, nevermind. Honestly, I think this every time, but is there anything that you don't know?"
"Don't be stupid. Even I have things that I don't know."
"I really wonder……"
"Woah, don't look so frightening."*
*T/N: Specifically, he says "don't rush/charge so violently" (probably at him), but it doesn't seem to work out so well in English, so I changed it.
Gazelle glared at me. Seeing him like that made laughter well up inside of me unconsciously.
Because of that, Gazelle's glare grew even stronger…….if I laugh any more than this, then he'll probably erupt, so I held in my laughter and took a breath.
"The world's full of things that I don't know. Especially regarding people's circ.u.mstances in particular."
"……what do you mean?"
Meaning, is it? The meaning, huh……
"Exactly as I said. For example, let's see……why do people desire things that don't match their status? Aspiration is a lamppost. However, if your desire becomes too strong to the point where you can't control it anymore, it becomes ambition, and the flames of excessive ambition will only burn yourself and the country."
At my words, Gazelle tilted his head.
"Well, that's just something on my end. So? Why is it bad for Ojou-chan to go out to town?"
"Don't just change the topic back so suddenly! ……well, fine. I'll turn back the question, but if a n.o.ble's daughter were to go out to town as she wishes, wouldn't her parents get mad at her?"
"Even though Ojou-chan has the ability to deal with danger?"
"For a parent that worries for their child, something like that doesn't matter. In the first place, we still haven't fished out the one behind the scenes yet. On top of that, why would she try to get permission to go out…….don't tell me, you……"
"You've got pretty good intuition, don't ya?"
"As I thought, you're trying to use that child as a lure to force out the ones behind everything?"
"Don't jump ahead of things. Well, it's not like I haven't thought of that before. However, it's cause I don't really know just how strong Ojou-chan is. If there isn't a problem with Ojou-chan's strength, and you were to give the stamp of approval, then I thought it could be possible, but……"
"Don't be dumb. I won't allow her to do such a dangerous thing."
"Of course. I know, so don't glare at me like that."
"……I really wonder."
"Haa……don't look down on me too much. I said that you've got 'good intuition', but I never said you were 'correct'…….I already managed to pinpoint the guys behind things a long time ago. The reason why I won't move, or let you move despite that, is so that we won't fall into a disadvantage for making a pre-emptive attack. The reason why I had her move was because I thought it might become easier to move if she were to stir up the board. However, it is not like she absolutely has to do that. If she doesn't do it, then I'll just use other plans……is what I thought."
"……don't become so serious so suddenly."
"Oi oi, the first thing you say after I talk is that?"
"Hmph……"
Right at that moment, the sound of cheering came from the arena.
Turning my gaze in that direction, there were a number of men who were simply watching Ojou-chan, who was in the center.
It seems that after she had completed the menu Gazelle ordered, she joined up with those doing the regular training, and magnificently managed to obtain a victory during a mock battle.
As proof of that, those who had lost to Ojou-chan were rolling on the ground.
"Oi oi, your place's Ojou-chan really is……really outrageous."
Against my better judgement, I raised my voice.
Saying…that it was interesting.
Based on information received from all over, I knew that Ojou-chan had a remarkable ability.
However, even so, I was surprised.
"Who could possibly imagine? That such a delicate girl is stronger than the average military man."
'……according to the person herself, when she's concentrating 'the surroundings feel like they move slower, so she can see it well', apparently. Incidentally, it seems that her 'ears become keener, and she can hear the opponent's breathing, as well as the sound of each and every one of her muscles'."
"Does the same thing happen to you, Gazelle?"
"No way. I'm just an ordinary person with a slightly better intuition than others."
"You really shouldn't be the one talking…….well, fine. Today I got to see something interesting. I'll come to intrude again another time with some alcohol."
"Next time bring something from Makaran's place."
"Okay, okay."
I left the cosy Anderson Marquis House and returned home.
The moment I returned, the sight of Rui, who seemed to be standing as if he had been waiting for me.
"I've returned~"
"Welcome home……could you hurry up and return to the study as you are?"
My son completely lacked the cuteness of a child around the age of 10. Occasionally, there were some people that would frequently talk about their kids while at work, but he's quite different from the children that they talk about.
"You're cold."
"Whose fault do you think that is, hm?"
"Who knows? Come on, you hurry up and go work."
……….well, more than half of it is my fault.
At this age, my son has a.s.sisted in quite a bit of my work.
But I was the same at his age, and it's been like this for many generations of the Armelia Ducal House.
I took a rough glance at the large amount of doc.u.ments placed in front of me.
"Oi, Rui."
"What is it?"
"I'll take care of all the doc.u.ments over there. In exchange, carefully examine and organize the doc.u.ments on this guy."
"What the heck is this……."
"Even if I don't say anything, you get it, right? It's a top priority matter."
"Of course. Even though mercenaries alone would be a troublesome matter, to think that a part of the Rinmel Duchy has begun to move…"
"……you managed to notice the mercenaries?"
"Yes……-is what I want to say, but it's due to searching in father's footsteps. That's why it is not something that I realized on my own."
"Even so…….there's nothing that can be done about the mercenaries. At the very least, I shall do something about this matter. You will also help me out, right?"
"Yes, of course."
While nodding at my son's reply, I immersed myself in work.
