Chapter 9: The Beastmaster Clan and the Challenge
Location: Atlantis Time: 1:03 PM
I remembered something.
At that time, during the compet.i.tion, Senior once warned the five-colored rooster head not to use his full strength. So I've only seen him use his beast claws in the entire compet.i.tion. At most it would be two claws.
But before the beast claws, I've also seen other things, such as talons, wings…if he didn't use it during the General a.s.sembly, then just exactly what is the five-colored rooster head's real strength?
This made me realize that in fact, it wasn't just Chifuyu whose strength is unknown.
The mutated version of G.o.dzilla opened its large mouth at the five-colored rooster head and issued a furious roar at him.
Without even the slightest fear in his expression, I saw the five-colored rooster head coldly smile, and his body gradually became more beastlike from his beast claw up. Like an infection, the beastlike part started to rapidly spread up his body. The wings that I saw before suddenly unfolded behind his shoulders, enveloping him completely. His whole body became taller and his wings gradually grew bigger.
It can't be that I'm going to see an angel beast later, right…
So cold, I chilled myself with that cold joke.
[T/N: Cold jokes=really bad jokes/puns]
Likewise not having the morals to wait until someone finishes their transformation before attacking, the mutated version of G.o.dzilla abruptly charged over, opening its mouth and fiercely biting right down on a wing.
The moment it was about to bite down on it, the huge wings suddenly shot up, sending the mutated version of G.o.dzilla that pounced on it flying for a small distance.
When I had a close look at what was inside the wings, I instantly had a strange feeling of s.h.i.+fting from a fighting movie to a dinosaur battle.
The five-colored rooster head's transformation was probably faster than Katherine expected. Before anyone could react, a huge beast that looked like an eagle and also a lion directly leaped up and bit the dinosaur's neck.
His beast claws connected to his huge body swung out, piercing right into the dinosaur's back.
The monster that was suddenly attacked and was in pain issued an angry roar. The entire ground immediately shook until it cracked. The people standing on it jumped back in succession. The range of damage was only within the array and didn't reach beyond it. Looks like this should be the effect of the isolation array.
The giant five-colored rooster head's movements were faster than the other side. In the blink of an eye, he had already flung a piece his opponent's neck off with a bite. A large amount of black liquid spurted out, as if a black rain had started.
It didn't look as thrilling and spectacular as in the movies. What I saw was exposed flesh and blood that was bitten into a vague mess. The twitching piece of flesh instantly made me feel like throwing up.
The monster let out a roar, trembled, and rapidly shrank. In less than a few minutes, the monster battle ended after the five-colored rooster head bit off a few pieces of the opponent as if he had gone mad from hunger. Nothing was actually damaged at all. Only the floor inside the array was the innocent victim.
With a "dong," after the monster disappeared, the girl's body fell heavily on the ground. Most of her neck and chest had already been torn away, revealing the bones and flesh that were continuously gus.h.i.+ng out blood.
The five-colored rooster head also returned to his original human size after a few seconds. He coldly looked at the girl collapsed on the ground, stepping on her head with a foot, "Turns out the ability of seven great experts is just this. The ones who were killed in the past were probably idiots." Saying that, he lifted his foot before abruptly kicking the head below.
I closed my eyes and didn't look at that scene. After opening my eyes, beneath the five-colored rooster head's feet was already an indistinct shape.
Without even changing his expression, the five-colored rooster head bent over, and his beast claw took out a dark red crystal-like thing from the pieces of shredded flesh. Once that thing was taken out, the corpse below suddenly turned into a pile of sand, then emitted black smoke, and disappeared without a trace.
"Gasai, take it." Tossing the thing in his hand to Gasai nearby, the five-colored rooster head gave him a thumbs up, "As food for your snake."
Senior Gasai caught that thing, spread his hand open and put it close to the crow on his shoulder.
Very quickly, that crystal-like thing was immediately swallowed by the crow. But unexpectedly, there wasn't any of the big increase in strength that would appear in manhuas and movies.
The crow only burped, and that was it.
Soon after the girl disappeared, the Ghost King who had been watching at the side slowly stepped forward, "What's your name?" She looked at the five-colored rooster head. Her golden-red eyes were tranquil and I couldn't tell what her current mood was.
"Ziray Rogeria." Not afraid of being cursed, the five-colored rooster head very directly gave his name.
"The a.s.sa.s.sin clan."
"Ha, thanks for knowing my name. That way I won't need to give you my business card." The five-colored rooster head took a step back, "Now it's your turn to fight, right?"
Ghost King Bishen coldly laughed, "You won't be able to win."
The five-colored rooster head shrugged, "Then never mind." And so, he just straightforwardly walked out of the array like that.
The surrounding affected ground started to piece back together bit by bit. After a dozen seconds, the tiles that were destroyed by the tremors had all been restored. You couldn't tell that a fight and the like had just happened there.
Looking at the others outside, Ghost King Bishen curved into a smile, "You think this matter will just end like this?"
Hearing her speak, I suddenly felt the hair standing up on my skin.
"Wait."
The one who interrupted the Ghost King from going over was Restua, who walked up, "Are you sure you really want to oppose our school by yourself right now?" His words were very cold, so cold that it was like ice, giving off a different feeling from usual.
I felt that, the current Restua was hard to approach.
"Just a couple of black robes. What can they even do?" The Ghost King gave a disdainful snort and raised her eyebrows as she looked at the person in front of her, "Whether it's an Elf or a Beastmaster, you think this king will be afraid of a few little second-rate clans!?"
Stepping onto the array, Restua, who was directly dealing with the Ghost King, didn't have any fear at all, his eyes looking straight at the Ghost in front of him, "Unfortunately, wasn't the very head of the four great Ghost Kings, Ghost King Yelu, defeated by us before?"
"Hmph, dirty means. Despicable lowly races, you are not qualified to mention that."
"If you want to talk about being 'dirty,' I'm afraid there isn't any clan whose means can compare to yours." Restua, who rarely spoke so rudely, immediately retorted back to the curses, sharply and bluntly, with a completely different att.i.tude from when he usually talks to us, "I'm not asking you to leave but ordering you to leave. You're at our school, and there's a large-scale Elven barrier in the school. You should have already felt your power gradually beginning to disappear, right."
As if he hit the nail on the head, for a moment Ghost King Bishen's expression turned cold, "How much of an effect do you think these barriers have on me!?"
"A lot, very much; otherwise why is it that you still haven't made a move up till now?" Disregarding the Ghost King's provocation, Restua enunciated each word, "Although I am unable to immediately cancel out your strength, but you're probably aware that our barrier is currently eating away all your power. If not, you should have long since made a move and attacked."
"It's true, a couple of black robes can't do anything to you and may not even be a match for you." Seeing that the other side didn't say a word, Restua continued to tell her icily, "But right now, this is our school. Even if other people don't intervene, as long as you continue to stay within our school, I can defeat you by myself. Do you believe it?"
He was simply stating a fact, a fact that the others had probably long known and only I didn't know.
I honestly didn't know that our school's barrier was so useful. No wonder I've always heard people saying that it can prevent foreign enemies from invading and whatnot before. It turns out it also has this sort of defense.
No wonder the Ghost King hadn't done anything since just now.
"Evil Ghost King Bishen, what do you say?" Restua was still looking at the person in front of him, as he asked.
The Ghost King standing before him seemed to be hesitating.
"Elf, tell me your name!" After a long while, she suddenly spoke.
"Restua Laurin, the Cat Eye of the Light G.o.d."
"You guys better pray that your school's barrier won't collapse."
The Ghost King let out a wild laugh then ferociously glared at Restua standing in front of her, "Or else, the first thing the Ghost Tribe will do is to eliminate you guys. Especially you; I will personally destroy the Cat Eye of the Light G.o.d. When your eyes are stuffed into a gla.s.s bottle and floating in water, it will presumably be the best decorative gift for the Light G.o.d."
A considerably big challenge, and it was completely directed at Restua.
"If you can do it, then go ahead. Unlike the Ghost Tribe, we're not that easy to kill." Slightly angry, Restua returned a rather infuriating answer.
"Just you wait." Only leaving behind that last sentence, Evil Ghost King Bishen's figure slowly faded, quickly vanis.h.i.+ng as if she was scattered by the wind.
It's over just like that?
Wasn't it a bit too easy?
I saw Restua let out a sigh of relief, shaking his head and walking out of the barrier. Almost at the same time, the black robes maintaining the barrier removed it.
This should mean that we're out of danger, right?
After it became calm below again, I immediately ran downstairs.
After leaving the entrance of the Black Dorm, the second batch of people who came to help, the medical team, had already appeared beside the few injured people, and they were each being treated; also nearby was the information team who were starting to collect XX materials from the situation just now.
I looked around. There wasn't anyone I know among the backup robe levels that came to help, and there weren't a lot of them either.
Does this mean that the situation just now didn't actually reach the highest state of alert?
"Yang~~" As soon as the five-colored rooster head saw me, he immediately ran over excitedly, "Did you see that! Did you see that! My griffin look was cool, right!" He smacked my shoulder with his b.l.o.o.d.y hand, leaving behind a b.l.o.o.d.y handprint like the ones that would appear around the victim on the scene of some kind of murder.
So that thing is called a griffin. In a second, my mind automatically connected straight to something else in a video game; it didn't look that similar, "Oh, very cool." Searching around, I didn't see Senior and senior Gasai.
Weren't they still downstairs just now?
I took a step forward, wanting to look around. Senior Randall, Darrow, whom I just met, and the others were still receiving treatment, but I just didn't see Senior and them. Even Xiao Ting wasn't here.
"Hey hey, you said that so insincerely; say it again." The five-colored rooster head out his arm on my back, directly stopping my steps.
"You should go get treated first. I'll talk to you later." For some reason, I keep feeling that it would be best to tell Senior and the others about that illusion from just now first.
My intuition was telling me that they are definitely related to it.
"If you want to find Senior and the others, I think I just saw them using a teleportation array to go to the medical team's headquarters." The five-colored rooster head was still leaning on my shoulder, completely disregarding that the dirty blood and whatnot on his hand was getting on me, as he lazily said, "I saw someone running over to talk to them and they left afterwards."
"The medical team's headquarters?" The first thing to appear in my mind was that healthcare center. That's not right, no matter how I look at it, that place doesn't seem to be the headquarters because it was too small; it doesn't seem to be a place where a lot of medical teams would gather, "Do you know where it is?" My eyelid suddenly twitched, and I felt that something wasn't right.
"Yeah, you want to go there?" The five-colored rooster head bounced to my front, happily saying, "My big brother goes in and out of there every day; of course I know how to get there too." He glanced at Julian, who was helping the medical team, smiling with very ill-intentions.
"I'm looking for Senior for something." My intuition was very urgent; I keep feeling that if I don't hurry up and say it, I'll forget everything except for that person's face later.
"Is there anything I know about first? You have to understand that you need to pay a price when you ask someone for a favor, especially when it's very urgent; that's all the more reason to come clean." The five-colored rooster head, who looked like a profiteer had suddenly appeared in his place, quickly turned very calculating.
Just when I really wanted to smack the back of his head and tell him to stop fooling around, a strange cold breeze suddenly rose behind my neck, "I also need to go there…"
"Wah!" I almost jumped out of my skin, instantly turning my head and retreating a few steps.
Standing behind me at some point and had clearly been eavesdropping for quite a while, the black gla.s.ses-wearing cactus folded his arms and eerily laughed twice, "I have to go back to the medical team's a.n.a.lysis department. Something happened there."
Something happened?
I froze, not knowing what he meant. Shouldn't it be the Black Dorm that had something bad happen?
"I just received a message that the Ghost King's first expert Andellar had broken into the a.n.a.lysis department and stole the stone sarcophagus being stored there." Seemingly glancing at me, Julian said, "We found the stone sarcophagus during that time in Lake Town. You guys should remember."
Lake Town?
That's right, I remembered. During the last part of our stay in Lake Town, we did dig up a sarcophagus. But because I was shocked by the matter with Yido later on, I forgot that thing's existence.
That said, it turns out that sarcophagus was taken away by the medical team, huh?
Wait a minute…So doesn't that mean the Lake Town sarcophagus that Andellar stole was…
I raised my head to look at Julian, and he nodded.
So this was Andellar's goal?
"The medical team isn't within the school. I'm going to teleport there now; you two should stand still and not move around." Not saying any more, Julian snapped his fingers, and a dark-blue light array immediately appeared beneath our feet.
The surrounding scenery slowly became blurry.
"Yang~~Do you think the current me is cooler or the griffin-me is cooler?"
"They're both cool."
Before teleporting, the conversation between me and the five-colored rooster head thus came to a close.
Then, what quickly appeared before us was a tower, a tall, completely snow-white tower. On the side of the tower were a few gla.s.s window decorations, and for some reason, there were also coconut trees and a white gravel floor below. For an instant, I heard the sound of tides on some kind of southern island. There was a large-scale totem on the white tower, exactly the same as the totem on Senior's black robe badge; they both had markings a.s.sociated with the Guild.
"The entrance is here." The black cactus leading the way beckoned and brought us near the white tower. There was a large gla.s.s arched doorway in front of the tower, and he stopped when he came close to it. The gla.s.s magically dropped down on its own, giving way to us.
Unlike outside, as soon as we entered the white tower, we saw a high-ceilinged hall.
In front of us, all around the hall were signs of damage as if it had been attacked. There were a few blue-robed people coming and going quickly like they were cleaning up the mess, "Mr. Julian." As soon as a blue robe carrying a broken half of a vase saw the black cactus enter through the door, he hurriedly walked over to greet him, "Mr. Tyre is waiting for you in the a.n.a.lysis department."
"Got it." The black cactus walked faster, and I could only run a little to keep up behind him. The five-colored rooster head was leisurely strolling in the back, and a few seconds later, he was dragged away when a blue robe saw the wounds covering his body, thus disappearing from view.
After walking to the deepest part of the tower, what appeared in front of us was a slab. The black cactus stepped onto the octagonal stone slab and beckoned to me. I immediately followed suit and jumped on it. As soon as I steadied myself, the stone slab slowly rose up by itself.
"You should have heard about the medical team's a.n.a.lysis department from other people before. It's mainly about a.n.a.lyzing various things, including reconstruction etc. Just like your world, there are also science departments and so on." Folding his arms, the black cactus told me, "This department comes into contact with the information team quite often, a bit different from the medical department."
I somewhat understood his meaning. At any rate, it's just kind of like the science or forensic department, right?
The stone slab stopped in front of a pa.s.sage.
As soon as it stopped, Julian started walking fast again, but this time we quickly reached the destination. Appearing before us was the same gla.s.s door as the entrance from just now; it likewise dropped down on its own to let us through.
After pa.s.sing through the gla.s.s door, the surrounding s.p.a.ce suddenly expanded.
Transparent orbs floated in the air. About the size of a hand, they drifted around like bubbles.
"Julian, over here." Already inside the room, senior Gasai beckoned to both of us. The place he was standing at likewise had traces of destruction having occurred. There were broken gla.s.s and some things that I couldn't tell what they were all around. "Chu? You came too?" The second he saw me, he seemed to be a bit surprised but quickly covered it up.
"Uh…I'm looking for Senior."
In less than two seconds, I immediately found who I was looking for, because he was standing right behind senior Gasai, "What's the matter?" Walking forward, Senior narrowed his eyes as he looked at me.
"It's…You guys can take care of your business first." I saw that the a.s.sistant and some people I didn't know were also there. I felt too awkward to directly talk about my illusions here, and it'd be embarra.s.sing if they say I'm wasting their time later. It's better if I wait for them to finish discussing first.
Senior gave me another look, not saying anything, "Wait for a moment; we'll be done soon."
As if they were waiting for Julian to arrive, the few people immediately ignored my existence and began to discuss in another language. Having some free time, I looked around my surroundings. There wasn't any place worth looking around either. Other than the large open s.p.a.ce, it was just that pile of transparent floating orbs whose usage was unknown. There wasn't any attractions to pa.s.s the time.
After five minutes or so, the a.s.sistant and those few unfamiliar blue robes hurriedly walked away again. It felt like something bad had happened.
I remember that before I came here, they said the stone sarcophagus we found in Lake Town was stolen. Could it be that thing was actually very important?
"Chu, you wanted to look for me to talk about some illusion just now?" Once the people in the discussion walked off, there was only a few of us left in the room. Senior turned around and immediately asked.
Uh…Now that you suddenly asked me, I don't know where to begin either…
"Start from the basics." Snappily glaring at me, Senior snorted.
"Just now on the fifth floor…" I gave a rough description of those weird fragments from just now. In fact, apart from forgetting the face of that silver-haired person, I remember the rest very clearly.
After I finished speaking, Julian, Gasai and Senior exchanged glances with each other for a while. The three of them all had expressions that seemed like they had reached some kind of conclusion, "You said it was a man and a woman?" Red eyes looked me, very serious.
"Nn, that's right." Even if I saw it wrongly, the voices I heard shouldn't be wrong.
The gla.s.ses-wearing black cactus stretched out a hand, and a nearby bubble immediately floated over to his hand, "Chu Ming Yang, hold this thing and think about your illusion again."
"Eh?" Stunned, I reached out my hand, and that floating bubble instantly drifted over to my palm.
Do I need to hold onto this thing?
"If you hold it, you'll see it directly shatter. It's fine like this." Senior stood by the side, looking at me with cold eyes.
It's not like I've ever used this thing before…Looking at the orb floating above my palm, I closed my eyes, and copying the clips I've seen on TV, I started to meditate in the dark.
"You don't need to close your eyes; you have to make sure the images are correct." With a "dong," Senior directly smacked me behind my head, immediately making my eyes open.
For a second, a black light appeared before my eyes, and I shook my head, "What images…" Just when I was about to ask, I saw that everyone had raised their heads slightly to look straight ahead. I followed their gaze over and saw that the orb above my hand was emitting a faint stream of light, reflecting something like an image onto the wall. It was a bit blurry, but the indistinct figure of that man I saw in my illusion did appear.
Turns out this thing is a mind projector!
So G.o.dly!
The images moved quickly and the blurry silhouette of that woman appeared too. Her voice was sharp enough to make my head start hurting again. The last image was of that silver-haired person, but it might've been because I forgot, that the person's face in the picture was also blurred. No matter how you look at it, you couldn't tell how he looked like.
The projected images were quick, and it was over in less than a minute.
After it stopped, I raised my head and saw a strange blue color appearing on the floating orb. Then it slowly drifted back to the gla.s.ses-wearing black cactus's open palm.
Everyone looked at me.
Subconsciously, I took a step back.
