Chapter 873: As the Son of the Devil
When Xiao Qin and I arrived at the entrance of the infirmary, Dr. Yu spotted me through the half open door.
“Ye Lin.” Dr. Yu beckoned me over, then lowered his voice and said to me, “Didn’t you want to contact Ai ShuQiao but you couldn’t? She finally returned to the United States half an hour ago. If you want to talk to her, take this black phone to the underground laboratory and dial the only number in the contact list. There’s no one else in the bas.e.m.e.nt right now.”
What? So Ai ShuQiao is finally back from her overseas business meeting? I did want to contact Ai ShuQiao because I wanted to ask her about Su Qiao’s whereabouts.
Xiao Qin stood at the door of the infirmary and didn’t follow me. She was able to make some inferences based on my serious expression and she seemed particularly obedient currently while wearing a maid uniform.
I didn’t tell Xiao Qin follow me when I used the freight elevator to head to the bas.e.m.e.nt. Xiao Qin vaguely knew that I was going to contact Ai ShuQiao, so she didn’t ask to follow me either. I asked her to go to the gym to play with Ai Mi and the others first. She nodded but didn’t move, as if she had made up her mind to wait in front of the freight elevator until I returned safely.
That’s a bit too exaggerated! I’m only going to make an overseas phone call to Ai ShuQiao, I’m not going to fight in an ancient Roman arena!
Five minutes later, I entered the empty underground laboratory. I only turned on 2 of the 24 fluorescent lamps and sat down on a computer chair in a relatively dark environment.
I drank a gla.s.s of water to calm my nerves before dialing Ai ShuQiao’s number on the black phone that Dr. Yu gave me.
Ai ShuQiao was obviously waiting for my call. According to the time difference between China and the United States, it should around 11 o’clock in the evening for her and she may already be lying in bed.
“h.e.l.lo? So you finally couldn’t resist but call me. Do you miss your mother?”
Ai ShuQiao’s joke didn’t cause me any emotional distress. I’ve already grown up after experiencing a life and death situation, so she couldn’t disrupt my pace anymore.
“I just have a few questions that I’m curious about and want to know the answer.” This was the calmest tone I’ve ever used to speak to Ai ShuQiao over the phone.
“Oh? What is it? Children are always curious, so you might as well let me hear them.”
Ai ShuQiao’s tone was much gentler than before and it made me quite uncomfortable.
I originally wanted to get straight to the point and ask about Su Qiao, but after thinking about it, I thought I could start with other questions first to see if I could make Ai ShuQiao let down her guard.
“I heard from Ai Mi that the perverted congressman who was in the running to be the President of the United States had his political future ruined?”
“Oh that.” It sounded like Ai ShuQiao adjusted her pillow as she let out a chuckle, “It was me. I didn’t care if that congressman was a pervert or not, the main reason was that he was useless. He didn’t know how to restrain himself when running for governor. He was opponent was able to get something on him, so I had no choice but to give up on him.”
I thought about the meaning behind Ai ShuQiao’s words, “You’re not thinking about giving Ai Mi away to someone else, are you? For example, someone else who has a better chance of being elected president?”
“Hahaha, as expected of my son, you’re getting to know your mother better and better.” Ai ShuQiao seemed to be very pleased with my ‘growth’, “It’s a pity that not all politicians are perverts who like little girls. If they aren’t a crazy lolicon, then even if I give your sister away, it won’t have the expected effect —— so you can rest a.s.sured that Ai Mi’s future is to be to be married to a young and promising elite businessman.”
So you’re still using Ai Mi as a bargaining chip? Well, it’s still much better than her previous plan, so I decided not to argue with Ai ShuQiao for now. Since even if she agreed to me verbally, there was no guarantee that she would keep her promise in the future.
“There is one more thing I hope you can answer…” I was about to ask about Su Qiao, but Ai ShuQiao asked me in a chatty tone:
“Do you have enough money? You bought a phone for Ren XiaoQin yesterday and you spent ¥2,600, right? If you need money, then ask Dr. Yu to give you an advance from his research funds, and I’ll give it back to him later. Anyway, I can’t prevent my son from picking up girls…”
As expected! Ai ShuQiao did send someone to monitor me! I vaguely felt it yesterday!
Since I was valuable to Ai ShuQiao now, it makes sense that she would want to know my whereabouts at any time. In Dong Shan City, there were already people working under Ai ShuQiao other than Dr. Yu. It was obvious that Ai ShuQiao would send those people to spy on me.
The electronic market was filled with people while I was choosing a phone for XiaoQin. The unknown presence staring at my back must have been someone sent to monitor me.
Later, I met Grandma Su by chance on the overpa.s.s, so I thought that the person watching me was only Grandma Su.
Now that I think about it carefully, with Grandma Su’s skills at keeping a certain distance, even Peng TouSi wouldn’t be able to notice, so how would I be able to detect her?
When I was ambushed by Zhuang Ni in the narrow alley near the ma.s.sage parlor last night, it confirmed my suspicion —— someone other than Grandma Su was following me. He was agile, although his ability to hide himself was slightly lower than Grandma Su’s, but it is was still at a very high level that’s seldom seen.
The instant when I was choked by Zhuang Ni’s piano wire and I looked up at the sky, I saw a pair of a man’s eyes on the roof.
At that time, I thought it was an hallucination caused by the lack of oxygen in my brain. I even wondered why the hallucination was so real that I could read the other person’s eyes as if he said ‘need any help?’.
In the next second, I turned into a berserker and broke away from Zhuang Ni’s control. The man’s eyes on the roof also disappeared at the same time. If it couldn’t be explained with hallucinations, then I would have thought it was an evil spirit summoned by Zhuang Ni.
However, now that Ai ShuQiao casually told me how much I spent on the phone I bought for Xiao Qin, it meant that her people have been secretly monitoring and protecting me, at least since I began to donate blood regularly.
That mysterious person also had great confidence in me. Yesterday, I almost got choked to death by Zhuang Ni, but he still didn’t jump out and interfere. Instead, he asked me with his gaze as if he believed I could escape by myself.
His judgment was correct, but I a.s.sume that if I really couldn’t defeat Zhuang Ni on my own, he would have followed Ai ShuQiao’s order and jumped out to save me —— after all, my blood contained special ingredients, so I was irreplaceable in Ai ShuQiao’s eyes.
I don’t know if it was because of Xiao Qin sketch of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles yesterday, but I think the person who was monitoring me was quite similar to a ninja. He even refuses to show up until the critical moment. It was so dangerous yesterday, but he still wanted to ask for my opinion. Maybe he didn’t want to damage my self-esteem?
In any case, through the conversation with Ai ShuQiao, I confirmed that someone was secretly monitoring and protecting me. Let’s refer to him as ‘ninja bodyguard’ for the time being. That’s one of the reasons why I didn’t put Zhuang Ni’s attempt to kill me to heart.
I’m someone who will fight against a powerful evil force like Ai ShuQiao. If I can’t even deal with Zhuang Ni, then wouldn’t my ambition simply be a joke?
Of course, my ninja bodyguard was also an important reason why I didn’t care about Zhuang Ni’s threats. Since Ai ShuQiao didn’t want me to die, then the bodyguard a.s.signed to me definitely wouldn’t be weak.
However, what I still don’t understand is if she only wanted my blood, she didn’t have to go through so much trouble. She could just kidnap me and lock me up in a secret place, then draw blood for experiments every day. Is there a reason that prevents her from doing that?
I went silent to think for a while. Ai ShuQiao then asked impatiently on the phone: “Do you need my help with your female cla.s.smate called Zhuang Ni?”
As expected, Ai ShuQiao knew everything about what happened to me yesterday. She probably also knew about Su Qiao’s grandma coming to Dong Shan City to look for her granddaughter.
I asked: “What are you going to do with Zhuang Ni?”
“Haha, it depends on my son’s wish.” Ai ShuQiao said casually, “Under normal circ.u.mstances, unless there was a special use for people who try to kill my people, I would usually eradicate them.”
“However, they can also be made into a work of art for people to view, which can have a certain intimidating effect on other people, which also kills two birds with one stone.”
I couldn’t help but frown, “A work of art?”
“Do you like amber?” Ai ShuQiao’s question was unclear, but it made you shudder.
“It’s possible for insects from ancient times to be enveloped in amber and become works of art that transcend time and be appreciated by future generations… In fact, technically speaking, people can also be made into amber.”
That steady tone and unmistakable confidence made me doubt that Ai Shuqiao had really done that.
“Of course, it makes no sense to make an ugly human body into amber. To become a work of art, it must have the potential to be a work of art. So after you strip off all their clothes, their bodies would give off a sense of beauty.”
“For example, a muscular man with eight-pack abs, or a graceful girl… if you turn them into amber and put them in your study or bedroom, then you would have an incomparable sense of conquest looking at the person who tried to kill you.”
I already knew that my biological mother was a demon, but today’s conversation made me even more convinced.
“You… what did you put in your own study? Or rather, who?”
“What are you thinking about!” Ai ShuQiao laughed, “I was only giving you an example and using my imagination. Even if ‘I’ have actually done it before, I wouldn’t openly display it in my own home. I might prepare a special underground exhibition hall and arrange my subordinates to visit it regularly…”
I suddenly felt that it was a good thing that Ai ShuQiao abandoned me and went to the United States. It’s a good thing for a person so devoid of humanity to go to another country.
“How about it? Ye Lin, have you decided? For people who wants to kill you, I can make them disappear , and then make them appear in the ‘hypothetical’ exhibition hall, where it would wait for you to come to the United States to appreciate it.”
“What position would you like her to be in? Standing or kneeling? A frightened expression or a sleeping expression? Mom can do it, as long as you say the word…”
