“What? The dog is finally awake?” Jiang Yuan's voice pierces An Chuxia's ear through the phone.
An Chuxia can't help but laugh and cry at the same time. If Han Qilu is a dog, what does that make Jiang Yuan?
“Mommy, since he's awake, it would be inconvenient for me to stay in the ward. Can't I move back to my room next door? Or I can be discharged from the hospital,” she says slowly as she stares at the curtains.
“Why would it be inconvenient? I think it would be advantageous. I'm going to pick up his physicians from the United States at the airport. I will come afterwards,” Jiang Yuan says before hanging up.
An Chuxia had no other option but to hang up.
She has no opinion about staying in the ward. The ward is so big, her only worry is that she'll end up annoying him. If he knew that she moved into his room because she was worried about him, wouldn't that make him hate her more?
After all, he likes Xiang Mankuai.
As her name pops in her head, her phone rings, and an unknown number flashes on her screen.
Without thinking much of it, she steps away from the part.i.tion to answer the call so she doesn't disturb the doctors. “h.e.l.lo, who is this?”
The phone is silent. It takes a while before she hears, “It's me.”
The voice is familiar, but she can't place it. Or maybe she just didn't want to hear her when the other party says, “It's Xiang Mankuai.”
A ghost of a smile spreads on Mankuai's lips. “Why are you acting like an old woman? You think I wouldn't make it my business to know your number?”
No one has ever called her an old woman before. She is displeased as she says, “Why are you doing this to me?”
She asks, but she knows the reason. She wants to ask about Han Qilu. Mankuai can't enter in the ward. More than likely, Jiang Yuan has given instructions, and that made Chuxia a little happy.
“Is Qilu better? What did the doctor say?” Mankuai's voice comes through the phone again.
How ironic that she speaks to her badly when she's the one seeking information! She pulls the phone from her ear and stares at it before responding, “You know I like Han Qilu, and yet, you have the audacity to ask about him through me?”
“An Chuxia, you've gone too far!”
Too far? She has the nerve to say that to her!
An Chuxia chortles before saying, “Fine, don't take it seriously. Qilu has just woken up, and he's currently being examined.”
“He's awake?” Mankuai asks happily. “Then you should arrange for me to come see him.”
“I can't do that. You need to ask someone else for that favor.” An Chuxia is telling her the truth. Does Mankuai really think she has that power? Mankuai really overestimates her abilities.
“You can arrange it for me. Just tell the bodyguards to let me in!” she says. “It's not because you don't want to see him and me together, right?”
“Of course I don't want to!” An Chuxia says truthfully. “Do you think I am a saint? I, too, can be selfish. But in all honesty, I don't have the power to arrange your visit with Qilu. Goodbye.”
Then, she hangs up the phone.
The doctor' examination is complete, and the curtain is pulled to the side. An Chuxia freezes in antic.i.p.ation.
What if Qilu overheard her talking to Mankuai? Would he think less of her for getting between them?
“We will prep you for a CT scan. For now, take a good rest. The nurse is just going to place your medicine.” The doctor instructs the nurse before walking out.
Awkwardness hangs in the air. What should she say to break the silence? She stares at her feet, thinking it's best to be mum.
“How's your foot injury?” he asks.
“You don't have to worry about it,” she says. “By the way, Mankuai says she wants to come visit you but she can't get in.”
She shoots him a side glance, noticing a stoic look on his face. He calmly responds, “Didn't you hear what the doctor said? I need to rest.”
She is rendered speechless.
They both remain silent for a while. Han Qilu lays down like he's asleep. Bored, An Chuxia picks up her mobile phone and starts playing.
There wasn't anything interesting on her phone. She could check her bookshelf, but she hasn't updated much recently and the only comments she'd receive are reminders.
There's just way too many things happening for her to update more often.
Just when she was about to start writing, the door opens and Jiang Yuan walks in. Behind her are several foreigners in white coats, and a chinese man in casual clothing.
Several of them talk to Jiang Yuan first before approaching Han Qilu. When he sees them, the look in his eyes soften. It seems like he's known them for a while.
So these are the physicians who treated him in the US?
An Chuxia was going to ignore her thoughts when the chinese man and Jiang Yuan approach her.
“An Chuxia, I've thought about what you said earlier and I think your logic is right. It would be best for you to go back to your own room so that you can concentrate on your academics.” Jiang Yuan pats her on the head before looking at the man next to her. “By the way, Mr. Wen, this is An Chuxia. As I said, she will be requiring your a.s.sistance these next couple of days.”
With the aid of the bodyguards, she was moved back into her old ward. After taking a glance [at Qilu], she feels a heaviness in her heart, so much so, it's like she can't breathe.
She thought Han Qilu had no choice but to save her out of desperation. She means little to him. Now, it seems like she's back to liking him alone.
“We can catch up with all the lessons later. We need to start working with math.” Mr. Wen says before opening up the math book. “Let's get started.”
“I'll try my best to catch up, teacher,” An Chuxia says.

In the other room, Han Qilu talks to the physicians, while Jiang Yuan takes one of the bodyguards to get lunch since Qilu hasn't eaten yet. Despite Jiang Yuan calling her son a stinky boy, she is still distressed about his condition.
After the examination, Dr. Jerry says in satisfaction, “Your cranium is strong. Although I've yet to see your CT scan, I don't see any major issues.”
Han Qilu suddenly remembers that he wrote to Dr. Jerry. “I remember writing you a letter, doctor. Why didn't you respond?”
“Letter? I don't recall receiving it. What was in it?” the doctor asks.
Han Qilu hesitates before asking, “I wanted to know when I would get my memories back.”
He doesn't tell the doctor part of his memory has returned.
“Remember one thing: if you lose your memories, let them remain lost. Why worry about the past?” Dr. Jerry puts his hand on Qilu's shoulder. “Everything will be alright. Your recovery will depend on the Lord's will.”
“Well, I'm not Christian.” Han Qilu knew he shouldn't have asked. Nothing can be done about it.
Will everything be alright?
Suddenly, An Chuxia appears in his mind. Maybe everything will be alright.
“Master Han, it's time for your CT scan appointment,” a nurse reminds him.

A few hours pa.s.s, and An Chuxia is immersed in her math books. High school math isn't any better than junior high. It can't be done just by doing sample questions. The questions should be answered with formulas, and one must know how to manipulate it.
The teacher has been long gone, leaving her with homework. He left 2 a.s.signments, and an hour has pa.s.sed since then, but she hasn't even completed answering one.
The ward door suddenly opens and An Chuxia thinks it's the nurse. “I won't sit for too long.”
The nurses here are so dedicated, telling her not to sit for prolonged periods of time. She doesn't think her foot injury is too severe for her not to keep sitting. After all, she's a Chinese student, trained to sit since her childhood.
“It's me.”
She raises her head to the familiar voice. Her eyes meet Han Qilu's.
Her heart skips a beat immediately. How can he look so handsome in a hospital gown?
“Why are you here?” She tries to conceal her emotions. “Can you move about casually?”
“As a Master, who dares stop me?” She is still confused, but his presence puts her at ease.
