Fringe for D'Oyleys.
_Cut a skein of cotton in pieces of 3 inches._
Put the needle in a st.i.tch of the work, take 2 pieces of the cotton, fold them on the needle, draw them through, and draw the ends through the loop, pull it tight.
Knitting cotton, No. 12, is the best for the fringe.
Scollop for D'Oyleys.
_To be worked on the D'Oyleys._
1st round--7 chain, miss 3, 5 plain.
2nd round--1 treble, 1 chain for 7 st.i.tches, 1 chain, miss 2, 1 plain, 2 chain, miss 2.
Wheel Pattern Insertion.
_Boar's head cotton No. 20, fine steel needle, make a chain of 500 st.i.tches for each yard._
1st round--5 treble st.i.tches in 1, 1 chain, miss 1, 1 plain, 1 chain, miss 1.
2nd round--Turn the work so as to work in the chain on the other side; work the same as 1st row, the 5 treble in the same st.i.tch as the 5 treble on the other side.
Ecaille Pattern Edging.
_Boar's head cotton No. 34, fine steel needle, make a chain of 500 st.i.tches for each yard._
1st row--1 treble, 1 chain, miss 1.
2nd row--3 chain, miss 1, 5 plain.
3rd row--6 chain, miss 5, (this over the 3 chain in the last row,) 3 plain, in the middle of the 5 plain in last row.
4th row--8 chain, miss 8, 1 plain in the middle of the 3 plain in the last row.
Open Vand.y.k.e Edging.
_Chain and cotton as last receipt._
1st row--Treble.
2nd row--The same.
3rd row--1 plain, 4 chain, miss 1.
4th row--1 chain, 1 plain; the plain st.i.tches are always in the middle of the chain in last row; 4 chain, miss 5, 1 plain, 4 chain, miss 5, 1 plain, 4 chain, miss 5, 1 plain; turn back, so as to work on the 4th row.
5th row--1 chain, miss 1, 1 plain, 4 chain, miss 5, 1 plain, 4 chain, miss 5, 1 plain; turn back.
6th row--1 chain, miss 1, 1 plain, 4 chain, miss 5, 1 plain. Work 6 shepherd's st.i.tches down the side of vand.y.k.e, so as to bring the thread to the 3rd row: this forms 1 vand.y.k.e.
Repeat from 4th row.
Close Vand.y.k.e Edging.
