Jing, who had just checked her bank balance and was in a pretty good mood, carried her bank card and went shopping in a mall. There were several clothes that she had always been meaning to buy but didn't do it because of the high prices. On this day, she bought all of them as well as a whole set of Tom Ford lipsticks. Satisfied, she left the shopping mall planning to go back to the campus.
The dormitory building she lived in was located in the West Garden, near the west gate of it, where there were very few pedestrians at night. Jing went to the west gate by taxi. Street lights on the sides of the road were rather old and giving off dim light. Two security guards were on duty at the gate, one of whom had fallen asleep.
As usual, Jing went through the gate. She had only walked a few paces forward when the light from the security guard's room gradually disappeared and the whole path fell dark. On top of that, there was not a single student around, which made a spooky scene of the path. A wave of fear clutched at Jing's heart and she hurriedly fished out her cellphone and made a phone call to her roommate. "h.e.l.lo, Xuan, would you please come and pick me up? It's dark here and I'm a little scared walking alone."
"Wait for me at the security guard's room. Yuan and I will go there together to pick you up."
On hearing the familiar voice from the cellphone, Jing regained part of her composure.
"Um, okay." Jing hung up and turned on the flashlight function of the cellphone, intending to return to the security guard's room and stay there to wait for her roommates.
Because of the darkness, the light from her cellphone seemed exceptionally bright. When Jing adjusted the cellphone to s.h.i.+ne the light onto the ground in front of her, the light flashed across her face and scared her. Her eyes instantly widened with fear and she broke out in a cold sweat. Even her voice was quivering somewhat. She took a couple of deep breaths, trying hard to calm herself down.
In the knowledge that her roommates would be here soon and the security guard's room was not far away, Jing managed to collect herself.
"Who–Who's there!" Her voice was slightly trembling but sounded rather normal.
In dismay, she watched as a person walked out of the dark. When she saw that it was He Jin, Jing felt instant relief. Seeing the unwonted expression on his face, she believed that he was here to make trouble for her. Jing vigilantly watched He Jin but had no intention of angering him. In an annoyed tone of voice, she said, "He Jin, you scared me."
He Jin gave a smile. In fact, He Jin was rather handsome –it was in the genes, after all. Moreover, he was from a rich family, so Jing liked him pretty much.
"For whom did you do this?" There was manifest coldness in the voice of He Jin, but Jing failed to sense that something about him was not right.
Jing had been paid a large sum of money, so of course she wouldn't confess so easily. With a puzzled look, she asked, "What are you talking about? You mean my pregnancy?"
Jing paused and bit her lower lip, as if very embarra.s.sed about what she was going to say. "That day, we partic.i.p.ated in the fellows.h.i.+p party together and you got drunk. Then...
I never expected that I would be pregnant, but when I tried to reach you, you blacklisted me, so I had no choice but to go to your home..." Jing trailed off, as if heartbroken.
"Where did you get the money to buy these things?" He Jin flicked a glance at the shopping bag she was carrying.
Without thinking, Jing replied, "I bought it with Ant Check Later (A Chinese online consumer finance service offering interest-free credit.)!"
While saying this, with an impa.s.sive look on her face, Jing slowly drew back. "He Jin, I won't make you if you don't want to take responsibility for me, but you must give me enough money to have an abortion."
"It's always about money." He Jin's eyes suddenly darkened. "It took a lot of b.a.l.l.s to go to my home and make that scene. I'll give you that."
Jing had a sudden feeling that He Jin in front of her was somewhat abnormal. She raised her cellphone to s.h.i.+ne the light on him. Previously, half of the face of He Jin had been in the dark, but when he walked out of the dark, Jing involuntarily let out a screech of horror.
"Ah –Help!"
He Jin standing in front of her was like an unhuman being. Half of his face that had been in the dark was shrouded in some kind of black gas that left only a white pupilless eye ball showing, making him an extremely terrifying scene. Panting heavily for breath, Jing ran madly towards the security guard's room.
Watching the woman running for her life, He Jin slightly curved his lips in a smile, which, contrasting with his remaining half of human face, made him seem even more hideous and eerie.
Jing kept running forward like crazy but suddenly felt a grip on her feet. In horror, she lowered her head and saw that a black, tentacle-like thing had quietly wrapped itself around her feet...
