“Why did you stop?” Zhu Duqing had yet to realized what happened. He came out from his carriage, seemingly half asleep. He looked at the sky in utter confusion and asked, “How far are we from Leguo City? The sun is about to set.”
Yun Yanli looked annoyed at him. He was not quite fond of Mr. Zhu, apparently. He initiated some small talk with Mr. Zhu in hopes of getting some information out of the man, but Mr. Zhu quietly disregarded his presence.
“Stupid!” Yun Yanli was certainly irritated. “They have just left. Do you still want to come with me to Leguo City?” Yun Yanli was starting to get impolite with his guest.
Zhu Duqing was not expecting the answer he received. “What? Have they left? When did that happen? Why didn’t anyone tell me about it?” He sounded like a puppy who had just been abandoned.
Yun Yanli obviously took joy in his misfortune. “Why should they tell you? Who are you to them?” He teased.
Zhu Duqing casually fanned himself as he added, “Xijiu is my master. It is the closest that anyone can get to her. They did not take me when the left, but they took Guardian Jin and Guardian Hua with them. They must be out of their minds! This is unacceptable! Who took them away? Why did they leave so suddenly? Didn’t you say that you were inviting us to Leguo City? Why did you let them go so suddenly?”
He bombarded Yun Yanli with a series of questions, but Yun Yanli only managed to get the last few questions and answered him with a tone of sarcasm, “Mr. Fuyi’s father was here and took them away. Do you think I could stop them?” He could not even make a sound.
Astonished, Zhu Duqing finally stopped playing with his fan. “His father? The Divine Lord came with his wife?”
Yun Yanli gave him a sibilant sound of disapproval. “Only the Divine Lord came. His wife was not here.”
Zhu Duqing was curious. “That is strange. They are always together. Why did they come separately this time?”
Yun Yanli was shocked, too. He knew that The Divine Lord would never be away from his wife, so he, too, was surprised by his wife’s absence.
“Perhaps his wife is occupied. They can certainly be apart, occasionally,” Yun Yanli murmured in uncertainty.
Zhu Duqing did not comment any further. He gave the donkey a tap on the b.u.t.tock and said, “Let’s go.”
The donkey, as always, disapproved of the gesture. It whipped its tail at Zhu Duqing’s face before launching itself into the distance at full speed.
Yun Yanli was speechless.
